About Me

Young woman with long black hair braided on top, smiling, wearing a white shirt and a blue vest, sitting at a cafe with large windows and indoor lighting.

I’m Kaylee, a developmental editor and author with a deep appreciation for character-driven storytelling. My perspective as a writer shapes how I approach every manuscript I work on.

My background is in creative media and creative writing, which means I’m not just looking at your story from a technical standpoint, I’m thinking about how it feels, how it flows, and how it connects with the reader. I care about emotional impact just as much as structure, because both matter when it comes to telling a story that truly resonates.

I believe every story deserves thoughtful, intentional feedback. When I work with a manuscript, I treat it with the same care and attention I give my own writing. I’m truly passionate about honoring your voice while helping you strengthen what’s already there!

Outside of editing you’ll usually find me obsessing over romance novels, questioning my life choices at the gym, outlining my next manuscript, collecting story ideas while traveling, or recommending books and movies to anyone who’ll listen.

My Editing Philosophy

I believe the strongest edits preserve an author’s voice while strengthening the story underneath it. As an author myself, I make it a priority to treat every story I edit with the same care, respect, and consideration that I would give my own.

I love character-driven storytelling, complex relationships, emotional drama, and unforgettable love stories. My current WIP is upmarket fiction with romantic through lines, but I’m also exploring thriller and magical realism genres in other projects.

Why I Edit

I’ve always had a passion for storytelling. The moment I started reading I was hungry for more. More knowledge, more words, more story. It wasn’t until I started revising my own work that I realized how much my life prior had been preparing me. Plot holes became obvious, character arcs tangible, moldable things, and structural issues were spotted at a glance.

It was a talent.

Something that I cultivated over the years, but I didn’t find a passion for it until I started engaging in community. I started my own discord server for writers like myself and found myself offering critiques that turned into story diagnosis and character breakdowns, and very quickly I realized I had a real knack for editing.

The thing that makes me happiest, why I keep coming back to editing, is knowing the impact I can make. If I can help one writer actualize their story, then I’ve done meaningful work.

I graduated magna cum laude from Texas Tech University with a degree in Creative Media and a minor in Dramatic Writing.

My academic background in storytelling, screenwriting, and creative media continues to shape the way I analyze narrative structure, pacing, and character development.
